Doha: Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, has launched its Women's Private Home Visits: Midwifery Care programme, a new private service that brings expert postnatal care directly to the homes of eligible mothers and their newborns after hospital discharge. The initiative is designed to provide personalised support during the critical weeks following childbirth.
The programme offers home visits by experienced midwives, providing routine postnatal care in a familiar environment while helping families avoid unnecessary trips back to the hospital. Services include maternal recovery assessments, breastfeeding support, newborn wellness checks, emotional well-being guidance and early identification of potential health concerns.
Dr. Dina Schnurman, Chief Nursing Officer at Sidra Medicine, said the programme extends the hospital's patient-centred approach beyond its facilities by giving mothers the education, reassurance and professional support they need to recover with confidence during the early stages of parenthood.
Professor Johnny Awwad, Chair of Women's Services at Sidra Medicine, emphasised that quality maternity care continues well after childbirth. He said the postpartum period plays a vital role in the health of both mothers and newborns, and continued clinical support can significantly improve outcomes for families.
The home visits follow the same evidence-based standards of care provided at Sidra Medicine and are delivered by qualified midwives. The programme supports maternal recovery, breastfeeding, newborn care, parental education and monitoring for any complications that may require further medical attention.
Initially, the service is available to eligible Sidra Medicine maternity patients following a clinical assessment. Visits are intended for routine postnatal care and are offered based on clinical suitability and operational availability. The programme currently operates as a self-pay private service, with both single-visit and package options available.
The launch reflects Sidra Medicine's continued efforts to expand family-centred healthcare and enhance Qatar's maternity services by providing greater convenience, continuity of care and personalised support for mothers and newborns during the important transition from hospital to home.
