Sheikh Hamad Award set to collaborate in hosting a translation symposium in Morocco on February 14

Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding

The Higher Academic Authority for Translation of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, in collaboration with the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding and the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, is set to host an international symposium titled "Bridges of Knowledge: Interpreting Otherness in Thought and Translation" on February 14 and 15, 2024, at the Academy's headquarters.

To enhance the academic discourse at this global symposium, scholars and translation experts from Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, France, and Germany will actively participate. 

They will contribute high-level research and perspectives on themes such as 'Translating philosophical culture: rooting, modernization, and prospects for enlightenment,' 'Linguistic dualism and cultural dualism: Is the equation correct, and how?,' 'Aspects of transferring literary poetic language and questions of the cultural rootedness of metaphor,' and 'Criticism of translations: analyzing the formats and methods of translation.'

The international symposium is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 4 pm. 

The opening session will feature addresses by Abdeljalil Lahjomri, the Permanent Secretary of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, Labib Nahhas, the Executive Director of the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding, and Mathias Rouh, the Dean of the Faculty of Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany.

Translation plays a crucial role in fostering cultural communication among societies, serving as an effective means for knowledge transfer and promoting openness to diverse human thought across cultures and civilizations. 

The symposium aims to recognize the challenges of exchanging ideas between nations and underscore the importance of translation in enriching philosophical, aesthetic, and religious perspectives while addressing the complexities involved in translating ideas from different languages.
