Sheikh Tamim
The Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Monday telephoned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and discussed with him latest developments in the region particularly the recently inked ceasefire between United States and Iran.
Sharif shared details of the deal with the Qatari Amir and how diplomatic efforts led to it during the call.
Sheikh Tamim reaffirmed his endorsement of Pakistanâs role in promoting peace efforts while the Pakistani leader applauded Qatarâs leadership and handling of their recent tensions.
âHad a conversation with my dear brother H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the sisterly state of Qatar, this evening. Sharif said in a statement that he was thankful for His Highnessâ kind words of support and encouragement for Pakistanâs sincere peace efforts.
âI commended the wisdom and restraint displayed by the leadership of Qatar in response to recent hostilities and reaffirmed Pakistanâs steadfast solidarity with our Qatari brothers and sisters.â
âWe are committed together to work closely for enduring peace across the region,â Sharif added.
The two leaders also were expected to discuss developments in Lebanon and their implications for regional security.
They condemned the Israeli airstrikes on multiple areas in the country, which they warned could destabilise more parts of the region.
The two allies underscored their shared commitment to addressing regional tensions, stressing the need for support for peace initiatives and resolution of conflicts via dialogue and diplomacy.
Pakistan has emerged as a key mediator in the U.S.-Iran ceasefire, using its close relations with both sides to facilitate backchannel negotiations and broker a temporary truce.Â
