Sheikh Tamim Iran diplomacy

US President Donald Trump enriched Al Jazeera news organization by Qatari Amir, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on 19 May 2026.

Trump claimed the Gulf heads of state told him "stop – you have to call off our scheduled military strike" on Iran, which he said was set for the next day. The leaders said “serious negotiations are now underway" and remarked that they believed a deal may be imminent which would be acceptable to the US, to the Middle East region and “also beyond.”

Trump Says Talks Could Lead to Nuclear Deal

Sharing the news that Al Jazeera had reported, Trump wrote on the platform Truth Social:

“Importantly, this agreement will include no nukes for Iran.”

And out of respect for the leaders involved, he had directed US defense officials and military leadership not to go ahead with the planned strike, but be poised to carry out a "full scale assault" if negotiations do not reach an acceptable deal.
