Qatar Museums (QM) have announced a range of new activities and workshops for all ages taking place this February. Spanning various venues, QM invites residents and visitors to attend, and explore the world of art, culture, and heritage.
As part of Qatar-Indonesia Year of Culture 2023, Qatar Museums Department of Heritage and Archaeology will host on Feb. 19 a lecture delivered by Dr. Stephen A. Murphy, Pratapaditya Pal Senior Lecturer in Curating and Museology of Asian Art at SOAS, University of London.
The lecture is titled From Srivijaya to the Abbasid Caliphate: The Belitung and Cirebon shipwrecks and maritime connectivity in the 9th and 10th centuries CE Museum of Islamic Art Auditorium QPS will be conducting a Mudbrick Making Workshop, in collaboration with Qatar Museums Architectural Conservation Department on Feb. 18, 21, 25 & 28.
The workshop will introduce participants to the traditional method of making air-dried mud bricks, inviting them to explore the process of using long-established tools and techniques affiliated with the craft. Participants must be 18+.
Qatar Auto Museum, in partnership with Expo 2023 Doha, recently opened an exhibition titled The Bicycle: the Future of Mobility, on show through 16 March 2024 located at the Cultural Zone Al Bidda Park. In the era of rapid urbanization and the rise of ecological concerns, mobility and sustainability have become a paramount focus to pursuing an adaptable future. A workshop and competition will be held in relation to the exhibition.
A workshop, aimed at 15 20 year olds, prompts participants to imagine the future of mobility; and how bicycles, e-bikes, autonomous cars, flying taxis, vehicles operating with alternative fuel sources (such as hydrogen and battery electric), cargo drones, and hyperloop systems are all being considered and tested as options for the future of transportation in several cities around the World.
The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) are running various programs throughout February, including storytelling sessions, tours, including a tour about the evolution of sports related to the AFC Asian Cup.
During the AFC Asian Cup, participants will join a Museum Guide to explore Qatars historical connection with the Arab countries in terms of cultural influence and trade and the evolution of sports in the region linked to the NMoQ collection.
NMoQ have introduced this tour to their regular programming, inviting university students & Educational Institutes as well as school students from KG and Grades 1 to 12 to experience the museum and learn about Qatars history, heritage, and culture. The tour is available in Arabic, English, French, Italian, Chinese, Spanish, Turkish and German.
The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) will host various activities in February, including their monthly family day and storytelling session, as well as an illustration and pottery workshop.
The MIA is delighted to present a distinctive fashion show featuring creative designs by 14 talented designers, inspired by the Fashioning an Empire exhibition. These designers have not only drawn inspiration from the exhibition but have also embraced sustainability by using eco-friendly materials in the production of their final designs. The event is free to attend and will take place in MIA West Courtyard.
Fire Station: Artists in Residence will hold two art workshops on Feb 16 and 17 - Procreate and characters: characters designing with Mohammed Al Emadi and Under the Sea - Art and Crafts with Hiyam Rabie.
Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar will hold a lecture themed around sporting history in Qatar. This interactive lecture with the amateur photographer and football coach Wagdy Gamal showcases the captivating journey of Qatar's sports history over the last 50 years. This event is free to attend and will be conducted in Arabic.
