Prime Minister Inaugurates Al Maha Pediatric Specialized Care Center

The Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani officially opened Hamad Medical Corporation’s new Al Maha Pediatric Specialized Care Center.

HE Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, Minister of Public Health, and several senior health officials were at the inauguration ceremony. 

“The Al Maha Pediatric Specialized Care Center offers expert long-term and acute care for children with special needs. This unique Center, the first of its kind in the region, is an ideal facility designed to create a home-like environment to promote a better quality of life for children with long-term care needs. In addition, the Center reflects the achievement of one of our National Health Strategy’s key goals, which is to provide high-quality care based on international best practice standards,” said Dr. Hanan Al Kuwari, Minister of Public Health. 

The Al Maha Center is situated within Al Wakra Hospital campus. The facility has a total floor area of 20,000m2, including inpatient and outpatient areas. 

One hundred five beds are available in six inpatient units, 69 of which are private rooms and 13 outpatient clinic rooms. In addition, it includes gardens, recreational facilities, and family areas. Al Maha center is a recipient of the European Healthcare Design Award and a World Architecture Award winner.

The Center allows accessible provision of all the patients’ medical needs, such as medical, diagnostic, and therapy services, with 26 therapy rooms, four group therapy rooms, and three gymnasiums. 

The Center also offers innovative services that include aquatic therapy provided in a state-of-the-art multi-level hydrotherapy pool, music and art therapy, virtual reality treatment, and more related services specially designed to adapt to the needs of children.
