MOCI detects copyright violations during intensified inspection campaigns

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) has confirmed that recent inspection campaigns across multiple regions of Qatar uncovered violations of intellectual property laws and Law No. 7 of 2002 on the Protection of Copyright and Related Rights. The campaigns were carried out as part of the Ministry’s broader effort to strengthen compliance and safeguard the rights of creators and rights holders.

According to officials, inspectors detected several cases involving the public display and transmission of audiovisual works without obtaining the necessary approvals or licenses from the rights holders. Such practices, the Ministry stressed, undermine the legal framework designed to protect creative industries and compromise the integrity of Qatar’s commercial environment.

The MOCI emphasized that respecting broadcasting rights and intellectual property is a shared responsibility. It noted that compliance not only protects the legitimate interests of rights holders but also fosters a commercial and cultural ecosystem built on respect for regulations, creativity, and innovation.

Authorities reiterated that intellectual property protection is central to Qatar’s vision of supporting sustainable growth in the creative economy. By enforcing copyright laws, the Ministry aims to encourage investment in cultural industries, promote fair competition, and ensure that businesses operate within the boundaries of the law.

The announcement serves as a reminder to commercial establishments that violations will not be tolerated. The Ministry confirmed that inspection campaigns will continue, with further enforcement measures expected against entities that fail to comply.
