Last Minute Holiday? How to Make Sure You Have Everything You Need
Sometimes we are bitten by the travel bug and we just decide to go. Whether a brilliant deal lands in our inbox or we just decide to pick whatever flight is cheapest to see where the wind takes us, a spontaneous, last-minute holiday can be just what is needed. However, there are some things that you need to plan within this. Let’s take a look at three things you will always need.
Passport
Your passport is one of the most important documents that you will ever own! There are many places that you can travel to visa-free, ideal for a quick getaway, but you are going to need at least a passport to get through the borders!Â
Do you know where your passport is? No one wants to spend the night before a flight anxiously searching for their passport. You should try to keep yours in the same, secure location in your home. No matter why you might need it, you will then know exactly where to find it. You also need to check that it is in date, and that you have enough blank pages within it just in case it does need to be stamped at the border. It can be heart-breaking to book and plan a holiday at the last minute only to find out that you can’t go due to an expired passport.
Insurance
You should always try to have insurance when you travel. Even if you are only away for the weekend, there is always the possibility that you could fall ill or could end up stranded after a cancelled flight. We need to make sure that we have a good travel insurance policy in place to protect us from these types of circumstances.
Look for a company that offers quick travel insurance policies. You don’t want to end up having to answer a really long questionnaire for an expensive policy that far outstrips what you want to do. There are so many options out there when it comes to insurance that you should be able to find the coverage that you need – even for a holiday that was booked at the last moment.
Luggage
For a last-minute holiday, you might not have any choice for luggage beyond a carry-on. That means that you will need to be incredibly smart when it comes to packing. Nailing the art of the capsule wardrobe is going to be key. Though you might only be away for a few days, it is important that you have everything you need to dress up for any scenario. For example, you should have at least one outfit that you can wear to a nice restaurant, even if you intend to stay in a youth hostel or some other form of affordable accommodation.
Another tip is to buy toiletries either at the airport or at your destination. Trying to deal with the limit for the security line can mean that you have to leave a lot behind. Between amenities at your hotel and samples that you can pick up in duty-free, you might be able to get a lot of your toiletries without having to worry about any limits.
A last-minute holiday can be the perfect getaway when you least expect it. By having a passport and the right insurance policy to hand, you really can go to most of the places around the world. Even if you have no such holiday on the horizon, start planning so that you have everything in place. Or, go one step further and book a last-minute holiday of your own!
