Katara Launches Fourth Teen Art Awards 2026 to Showcase Young Creative Talent

Qatar’s Cultural Village Foundation Katara has launched the fourth edition of the Teen Art Awards 2026, in partnership with the Art Connects Foundation and the British Council.

The international contemporary art competition is open to young artists aged 13 to 17 from around the world, with participation offered free of charge. The initiative aims to encourage emerging talent and provide young artists with a global platform to express themselves through art.

“Belonging” chosen as this year’s theme

The theme for the 2026 edition is “Belonging”, inviting participants to explore ideas related to identity, memory, culture and society through creative expression.

The theme is also intended to encourage diversity, dialogue and a deeper understanding of different perspectives through contemporary art.

Katara Director-General Dr. Khalid Al Sulaiti said the award reflects Katara’s vision of culture as a responsibility and its commitment to providing younger generations with opportunities to showcase their creativity on an international stage.

Submissions open August 1

Artists can submit their work from August 1 through November 1, 2026.

The programme goes beyond the competition itself, featuring an educational programme, a discussion session, digital showcases and a special project designed for teenagers with disabilities.

The winners will be recognised during an awards ceremony scheduled for December 3 at the Katara Drama Theater.

Building a global platform for young artists

British Council Qatar Director Dr. Waseem Qutub said the initiative supports young people’s creativity while creating opportunities for emerging artists, educators and cultural institutions to engage in creative learning and cultural exchange.

Daria Kalinina, President of the Art Connects Foundation and founder of the Teen Art Awards, said the programme is based on the belief that creativity begins at an early age and that young artists need opportunities to present their work internationally.

The previous edition attracted participation from more than 60 countries, highlighting the growing international reach of the initiative.

The fourth Teen Art Awards further strengthens Katara’s efforts to promote youth creativity and cultural exchange, while giving teenagers from different backgrounds an opportunity to connect through contemporary art.
