Katara Cultural Village’s Al Thuraya Planetarium is giving children and families an opportunity to explore the wonders of space through immersive educational shows that combine science, storytelling and entertainment.
The planetarium programme features space-themed films designed to capture young audiences’ curiosity while introducing scientific ideas in a simple and engaging way.
Space Adventures Designed for Young Minds
Among the children-focused productions are “Space Guardians: Departure,” which uses lively characters and interactive adventures to explore themes including space, the environment and teamwork, and “Planet of the Dinosaurs,” which combines prehistoric life with scientific discovery.
The shows are intended to encourage children to ask questions, explore unfamiliar ideas and develop greater interest in astronomy and science.
Immersive 360-Degree Experience
A key feature of Al Thuraya Planetarium is its full-dome digital projection system. The 360-degree viewing environment surrounds audiences with images of planets, stars and deep space, turning each presentation into an immersive visual journey.
The planetarium occupies around 2,240 square metres and features a 22-metre dome screen with seating for approximately 200 visitors. Its digital systems support both 2D and 3D educational presentations.
Arabic and English Shows
Presentations are available in Arabic and English, helping the venue reach a broad audience of children, families, students and astronomy enthusiasts.
The facility also includes educational displays related to astronomy and Earth science, along with models connected to space exploration.
Education Meets Entertainment
Al Thuraya Planetarium has become one of Katara’s notable science-focused attractions by combining modern projection technology with accessible educational content.
Its family-friendly approach is designed to make complex subjects easier to understand while preserving the excitement and sense of discovery associated with exploring the universe.
Advance Booking
Katara operates an advance booking system for planetarium shows, with availability dependent on the programme and limited seating. Families are advised to check the official Al Thuraya Planetarium schedule and booking page for current screening dates and times before visiting.
