India Launches Search for Coast Guard Crew After Helicopter Crash

On Tuesday, India deployed four ships and two aircraft to search for three missing coast guard personnel after their helicopter crashed into the Arabian Sea during a rescue mission. The coastguard helicopter was attempting to save an injured crew member aboard an Indian-flagged tanker, located approximately 45 kilometers (27 miles) off the coast of Gujarat in western India, late on Monday.

The Indian Coast Guard stated that the helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing, leading to it being ditched into the sea. While one crew member has been rescued, the search continues for the remaining three. The helicopter's wreckage has been located.

Earlier, the same helicopter crew had been involved in inland rescue operations in late August, aiding dozens of people stranded due to deadly flash floods in Gujarat, which resulted in at least 28 fatalities.
