World Cup 2026 Round of 32

The World Cup 2026 knockout stage is now in full swing across North America. Sixteen teams have already exited after the group stage concluded. The remaining 32 nations now compete in single elimination matches. Every game from this point must produce a clear winner.

Results so far in the Round of 32

South Africa fell to Canada by a score of three to one. Brazil defeated Japan two to one in their opening match. Germany lost to Paraguay by a score of three to one. Morocco beat the Netherlands one to one on penalties dramatically. Cody Gakpo scored for the Netherlands in the seventy second minute. Issa Diop equalized for Morocco deep into stoppage time. Morocco then won the penalty shootout by a score of three to two. Ivory Coast lost to Norway by a score of one to two. France defeated Sweden comfortably by a score of three to one.

Matches still set for today

Mexico faces Ecuador tonight at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. This match marks one of the final Round of 32 fixtures today. Fans expect a competitive match between these two regional rivals.

What comes next in the tournament

England will face DR Congo on Wednesday in Atlanta. Belgium takes on Senegal the same day in Seattle. The United States will play Bosnia and Herzegovina in Santa Clara. Spain meets Austria on Thursday at SoFi Stadium. Portugal will face Croatia in Toronto the same day. Switzerland takes on Algeria in Vancouver to close out Thursday. Australia plays Egypt on Friday in Arlington, Texas. Argentina meets Cape Verde later that same day in Miami. Colombia closes out the round against Ghana in Kansas City.

How the knockout format works

Each Round of 32 match must produce a winner before advancing. Tied matches move into thirty minutes of extra time first. A penalty shootout decides any match still tied after extra time. Winners advance directly into the Round of 16 stage. That round begins on July 4 with Canada facing Morocco. The tournament continues through the quarterfinals, semifinals, and eventual final.

This is a fast moving tournament, and results may update quickly as matches conclude throughout the week.
