Dubai: The United Arab Emirates is seeking to deepen its long-term investment partnerships across Africa, with a strong focus on renewable energy, infrastructure and digital innovation as part of efforts to support sustainable economic growth across the continent.
The announcement was made by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State, during the Nigeria–UAE Investment Forum in Abuja. He said the UAE views Africa as a strategic partner and remains committed to building resilient, long-term partnerships that align with the development priorities of African nations.
According to the minister, renewable energy, transport infrastructure, logistics and digital innovation represent some of the strongest opportunities for expanding cooperation between the UAE and African countries. He noted that the UAE's investment strategy aims to support sustainable development while creating new opportunities for trade, innovation and economic diversification.
The UAE has significantly expanded its economic footprint across Africa in recent years through investments in clean energy, ports, transport, logistics and critical infrastructure. Emirati companies have also increased their presence in sectors such as telecommunications, mining and agriculture, reinforcing the country's position as one of Africa's leading foreign investors.
Officials highlighted that stronger UAE–Africa cooperation will help accelerate the transition to cleaner energy, improve regional connectivity and unlock new opportunities for private-sector investment. They also stressed the importance of innovation and digital transformation in driving inclusive economic growth across the continent.
The UAE has already committed billions of dollars to renewable energy initiatives across Africa, including projects announced during COP28 aimed at expanding clean energy capacity and improving access to electricity in underserved communities. These investments form part of the country's broader strategy to support sustainable development while strengthening economic ties with African partners.
The latest commitment underscores the UAE's ambition to play an increasingly important role in Africa's economic transformation by investing in infrastructure, sustainable energy and technology-driven development, while fostering stronger trade and investment partnerships across the continent.
