U.S. President Donald Trump declared on Monday, 1 June 2026, that Iran is eager to strike an agreement with Washington, insisting any deal reached would be “a good one” for the United States and its allies.
In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump lashed out at political opponents, accusing Democrats and some Republicans of undermining his negotiating position by “constantly chirping” about his handling of the war. He argued that criticism over whether he should move faster, slower, or escalate militarily was making his job “much tougher,” urging detractors to “sit back and relax” and trust that the process would end well.
The remarks came only hours after the U.S. military confirmed strikes on Iranian targets in southern Iran, including missile launch sites and mine‑laying boats, despite a ceasefire officially in place since April 8. The strikes, described by CENTCOM as “self‑defence,” killed several members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to Iranian sources.
Trump has repeatedly said his priority is to secure a substantial agreement that prevents Iran from advancing its nuclear program, while Tehran continues to deny any intention of developing nuclear weapons.
