8. Simaisma Beach — The Family Favourite
Best for: Families with children, barbecues, full day outings
Location: North of Doha, approximately 35 minutes
Simaisma is the quintessential Qatar family beach, and it earns that reputation honestly. The water is reliably calm and shallow — ideal for younger children who want to paddle and play without parents anxiously watching the depth. The beach is well equipped with shaded picnic areas, playgrounds, barbecue spots, and open space for ball games and frisbee. It's a full-day package in one location.
On weekends and public holidays it gets busy, which is actually part of its charm — the atmosphere is warm, communal, and genuinely festive. Bring enough food for a long afternoon and let the kids exhaust themselves.
Insider tip: Arrive before 9 AM on weekends to secure a good shaded picnic spot before the families arrive en masse.

9. Zekreet Beach — The Edge of the World
Best for: Camping, photography, windsurfing, off-grid adventure
Location: West coast, approximately 90 minutes from Doha
Zekreet is genuinely unlike any other beach on this list. The dramatic limestone rock formations that frame the shoreline give it an almost lunar quality — stark, wind-carved, and completely compelling. The beach is remote enough that you can camp here and wake up to absolute silence and a sunrise over the Gulf. Windsurfers love the west coast winds that sweep the shoreline consistently.
There's no infrastructure here — no cafes, no facilities, no crowds. Just rock, sand, sea, and sky. Zekreet also sits close to the Richard Serra art installation in the desert interior, making it a natural stop on a longer west-coast road trip.
Insider tip: A 4WD is highly recommended. Pack everything you need for the full visit and plan your route before leaving Doha. The remoteness is the point.
