Getting From Doha Airport to the City

  • Metro:ย The cleanest, fastest, and cheapest option. The Red Line runs from Hamad International Airport to Souq Waqif station in around 25 minutes. Tickets cost QAR 2โ€“3. Trains run frequently and are modern, air-conditioned, and clearly signposted in both Arabic and English. Note: The metro does not run before 5am.
  • Bus:ย Public buses depart from directly outside the terminal. Slower and cheaper than a taxi, but routes are clear and fares are low. Better suited for those without fixed time pressure.
  • Taxi or ride app:ย The fastest and most flexible option. Karwa taxis are the official airport taxi. Journey time to the Souq Waqif is around 15 minutes in normal traffic, QAR 25โ€“40. Pre-booking a transfer through the airport is recommended during peak periods to avoid queues.

For visits to the Pearl or Katara, a taxi is essential as public transport does not serve these areas directly.

Luggage storage. If you plan to go into the city with hand luggage, leave bags in the airport storage facilities before clearing immigration. Wheeling a suitcase around the Souq is not fun.
