Egyptian Bread
The price of bread has been discounted in Egypt to fight inflation. The Government of Egypt will implement this for the people not enrolled in its bread subsidy program. This was informed by the Supply Minister on Monday.
90 grams of the loaf can be purchased at a cost price using prepaid cards. "The point is to make this important commodity available without any exaggeration in profits by commercial bakeries," Ali Moselhy said.Â
More than 70 million citizens are already being provided subsided bread by the Government of Egypt.Â
It is unclear whether the country's state grains buyer, the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), would require to increase imports.
One of the largest wheat importers in the world is Egypt but due to hundreds of thousands of tonnes of wheat being stuck at the port due to private importers finding it hard to pay for it, the price of bread and flour has spiked.Â
