Students from Texas A&M University at Qatar, a Qatar Foundation partner university, won third place at the global Invent for the Planet event that was held recently at the flagship campus in College Station, Texas (USA). Started by Texas A&M University, the annual competition asks students from more than 24 participating universities around the world to tackle the most challenging issues facing the world today in just 48 hours.
The Texas A&M at Qatar students, Team Eco-Engineers, qualified after winning the Qatar leg of the competition earlier this year. The team included Abdulaziz Al-Fakhroo, Hind Fakhroo, Joud Massalkhi, Meera Jarrar, Roudha Al-Khaldi and Punit Pande who won for their innovation Solar Path, a self-healing solar cell with lens concentrator designed to lower the maintenance cost and improve the efficiency of solar panels.
