Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani Rifle and Trophy
Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organized HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani rifle and trophy on Saturday. The event took place on the turf track at Al Rayyan Racecourse and featured 10 races.
HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani honored the winners of the 9th and 10th races. The first four places of which were won by Hamad Mishlash Jaber Al Khayarin, Abdulrahman Abdullah Faleh Al Hajri, Rashid Mohammed Ali Mohammed Abdullah, and Abdullah Hozam Mohammrd Al Saaq Al Marri respectively.
The 10th race of HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al-Thani Rifle for Thoroughbreds was won by Aafoor, who managed to land the spoils for Al Jeryan Stud and trainer M.H.K Al Attiyah. Under jockey Szczepan Mazur, the 4YO colt delivered an incredibly powerful and determined performance in the final strides, taking on some of the strongest horses, to land the coveted title and give a third win on the day to the owner and the trainer and a fourth to the jockey.
The winning horse of this race will earn a coveted spot in the Shalfa race during the HH the Amir Sword Festival, which will be held in February.
In HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani Trophy for Purebred Arabians (Gr3 PA), Champion Abbes retrained the title for the third year in a row, confirming his dominance as the undisputed champion of the race. James Doyle completed a quick-fire double as he guided the 8YO to clinch victory by a short head from stablemate Raed, not only securing a one-two for Wathnan Racing and trainer Alban de Mieulle, but also adding their fourth win on the day.Â
Deauville (AF AlBahar), owned by Umm Al Shukhut Farm and trained by Mohamed Khaled Elahmed, showcased a dominant front-running display winning the Local Purebred Arabian Premium Maiden Cup. With Alberto Sanna in the saddle, the 4YO held on gamely in the final strides to secure victory by a short head over the valiant Kasser Al Shahania.
The 5YO AJS Agadir (AF AlBahar), owned by Al Jeryan Stud and trained by M.H.K Al Attiyah, with Szczepan Mazur in the saddle, stormed to an impressive victory after making a stunning sweep in the home straight, winning the Local Purebred Arabian Novice Cup.
Phoebus (Earthlight), owned by Al Falah Stud and trained by Hamad Al-Jehani, made an impressive impact on Qatar debut, winning the HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani Trophy for 3YO Thoroughbreds in just his 3rd career start. A patient precise ride from Szczepan Mazur saw the colt strike in the home straight to secure the win, earning a double for the jockey on the day.
General Panic (Outstrip) prevailed in the Thoroughbred Open Race to land the HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani Trophy for owner Mohammed Abdulhadi S Al-Hajri and trainer Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki. Under his regular jockey, Tomas Lukasek, the 6YO made a sensational return to the winners' enclosure with a dramatic win, having sprouted wings in the final strides, securing a thrilling victory by a short head over the valiant Dark Trooper.
RB Mary Lylah (Al Mourtajez) extended her unbeaten Qatar campaign with a superb win of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani Trophy for Purebred Arabians. A flawless post-to-finish performance secured her second straight win and completed a double for Wathnan Racing, trainer Alban de Mieulle and jockey Maxime Guyon on the day.
Carrying the colours of Wathnan Racing, Lippo De Carrere made a stunning Qatar debut, winning the HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani Trophy for Purebred Arabians. In the hands of James Doyle, the 4YO son of Al Mourtajez, saddled by Alban de Mieulle, surged through the home straight to overtake the leading pack and was eased to a very comfortable victory, completing a remarkable treble for the connections.
