Somalia celebrates Independence Day

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Qatar celebrated the 64th anniversary of the Republic's independence and the 50th anniversary of Somali-Qatari diplomatic relations on Sunday evening.

The event was attended by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs H E Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, Director of the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs H E Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, and Ambassador of Eritrea to Qatar and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps H E Ambassador Ali Ibrahim Ahmed.

H E Dr Mohamed Ahmed Sheikh Ali, the Ambassador of Somalia, commended the Somali-Qatari diplomatic relations, noting their history of cooperation and achievements in various fields, including mutual political support, economic collaboration, humanitarian aid, and development investments. “It is with great joy and pleasure that I extend my highest appreciation and respect to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the sisterly State of Qatar, may Allah protect him, who paid special attention to the course of bilateral relations between the two sisterly countries of Somalia and Qatar, and to the Qatari government and the great Qatari people,” said the Ambassador.

He emphasized that the Somali-Qatari relationship is rooted in fundamental principles of cooperation across various fields, shared interests, and strong historical ties.

The Ambassador highlighted that this historic occasion underscores the importance of Qatar's role as a strategic partner and ally of Somalia, showcasing the commitment of both nations to enhancing sustainable cooperation and building a partnership based on mutual interests that reflect the depth of their historical relations.
