The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) underlined Tuesday the readiness of Al Thumama Stadium to open, more than a week before hosting the final match of the 49th edition of HH the Amir's Cup on Friday, which is scheduled between Al Sadd SC and Al Rayyan SC, marking the inauguration of the stadium that will host part of the matches of the Arab Cup 2021 and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Al Thumama Stadium opened its doors this evening for a large gathering of local media officials, as the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy accompanied the media on an exploration tour of all the facilities of the stadium. During the tour, Chief of Tournament Experience at SC Khalid Al Mawlawi, and Al Thumama Stadium Project Engineer Eng. Mohammad Khalil Al Abdullah revealed all the preparations to host the final match of HH the Amir's Cup.

The tour also touched on the cooling system which will ensure an ideal atmosphere for players and fans throughout the year, as well as the unique lighting system in the stadium.

During the media tour, the SC revealed the intention of the Local Organizing Committee for the Amir's Cup to welcome sports fans to the final with the maximum capacity of Al Thumama Stadium, which is 40,000, for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In press statements, Chief of Tournament Experience at SC Khalid Al Mawlawi commended the great attendance of local media officials, noting that this presence enhances the local and international media momentum for the opening of Al Thumama Stadium, the sixth venue for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Al Mawlawi noted that Al Thumama Stadium is an architectural and sports masterpiece that symbolizes the splendor of the Qatari and Gulf heritage, adding: "Through this inspection tour, we wanted to highlight all the construction and engineering details to media representatives a few days before its official inauguration."

He added that the attendees were informed of all the measures that will be taken during the inauguration of the stadium and the procedures for managing the operations during the hosting of the Amir's Cup final, in the presence of 40,000 spectators, for the first time since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

Al Mawlawi invited all sports fans in Qatar, both citizens and residents, to reserve their seats and attend the inauguration ceremony of the Al Thumama Stadium, noting that there are many mass events that will take place in the Fan Zone in the vicinity of the stadium, in addition to the official presentation that will precede the final match.

For her part, Communications Executive Director at SC Fatma Al Nuaimi said that the inauguration of Al Thumama Stadium will represents the actual start of filling the football stadiums in Qatar again after a long absence due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Al Nuaimi added that opening Al Thumama Stadium more than a year ahead of the World Cup Qatar 2022 reflects the extent of Qatar's commitment to the timetable for completing the facilities of the tournament.

She added that the readiness of Ras Abu Aboud Stadium will be announced on the sidelines of the upcoming Arab Cup, which raises the number of stadiums that are inaugurated a year before the tournament to 7, and this in itself is an unprecedented achievement in the history of previous hosting of the World Cup.

She noted that Al Thumama Stadium is compatible with all FIFA standards and conditions for the World Cup stadiums, with a local heritage character that embodies the interdependence between Qatars present and its bright future as one of the most prominent global sports capitals.

The media delegation was briefed on the facilities of the VIP and guest hall, in addition to the changing rooms of the teams playing their matches in the World Cup stadium, which are fully prepared to receive players and the technical equipment in an exciting football experience in the sixth World Cup stadiums.

Representatives of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy stressed that the Al Thumama Stadium project team has been keen, since the start of construction work, to include the best practices of sustainability and preservation of the environment in all stages of its construction. The power plant has been modernized on the site in accordance with the latest approved standards in the field of energy efficiency.

The sustainable design of Al Thumama Stadium also ensures that 40% of pure water is preserved compared to stadiums of traditional designs, as well as using recycled water to irrigate green spaces.

The areas surrounding the stadium include parks extending over a total area of 50,000 square meters consisting of local plants and trees, which constitute an important percentage of the total green space on the site.
