Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 'considered naming royal racist who asked about Archie's skin colour' in Oprah interview

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle considered naming the royal they alleged made a racist remark about their unborn child, reports say.

The couple sensationally claimed during their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March that a senior royal had made a comment when the Duchess was pregnant with Archie.

But they did not name the supposed royal, or give any details which would help to identify whom was responsible.

However, an updated edition of an unofficial biography of the Sussexes has now alleged that they DID consider "sharing this detail" in the tell-all chat, it is said.

A leaked epilogue of 'Finding Freedom', quoted by the Daily Mail, is said to have revealed that Meghan decided against naming the individual, as it would be "very damaging to them."

The book is also said to claim that Prince William - who had to insist his family was not racist when challenged by reporters in the aftermath - was left "furious" by the interview.

Harry, 36, and Meghan, 40, have repeatedly said that Finding Freedom is not authorised and they have not spoken to its authors, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

However, other parties believe there is some closeness between the authors and the couple.

An updated version of the book is due to be published next week, with more revelations likely to rock the royal family expected.

Harry and Meghan sat down with Winfrey earlier this year for an interview in which they made several claims against the royal family.

Meghan shared that she had suffered from "suicidal thoughts" and claimed that she was denied help for her struggle, while Harry claimed his brother William was "trapped" within the royal system and his dad Prince Charles had cut him off financially.

The interview came after they stepped down as working members of the royal family and left their life in Britain to carve out a new one in the US.

And a friend of Meghan's has now reportedly told the authors of Finding Freedom that giving the chat was "cathartic" for the Duchess.

According to the Independent, the source tells the book: "All the things she had kept to herself or been too afraid to say [as a working member of the royal family] she felt safe to finally share. It was liberating."

The epilogue also sees friends of the couple claim the Queen has not taken "full ownership" of the issues they raised during the interview.

Following the airing of the chat, Buckingham Palace issued a statement saying she was "saddened" by the allegations, but added that "some recollections may vary".

In an extract of the updated book featured in PEOPLE, the authors say the statement "did not go unnoticed".
