Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani underlined that the bilateral relations between Qatar and Egypt have returned back to their normal state and their solid base, thanks to the keenness of the leadership of the two brotherly countries, and the sincere efforts made in the past period, noting that this matter will reflect positively on the two countries and the region.
In a joint press conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Sameh Shoukry in Cairo on Monday, Sheikh Mohammed said the two countries have decided to form a joint higher committee headed by the foreign ministers with an aim of continuous consultation and strengthening cooperation and coordination in all fields.
He underlined Qatar and Egypt have passed the difficult stage with open hearts and a future outlook, pointing to broad prospects for consolidating the bilateral cooperation at the political and economic levels, and enhancing communication between the two peoples.
Sheikh Mohammed said his meeting with the Egyptian foreign minister focussed on the bilateral relations and ways to deepen and activate them and advance them to broader horizons, noting that the two countries are looking forward to developing cooperation and coordination in various fields to upgrade the relations to the level of aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.
He added that the talks also reviewed the latest regional and international developments and their repercussions, noting that coordination is continuing between the two countries regarding various files.
Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the pivotal role of Egypt in the Arab region, affirming that Qatar will be supportive of this role to face common challenges and strengthen the bilateral relations in a comprehensive manner.
Sheikh Mohammed praised the work of the members of the joint bilateral committees emanating from Al-Ula Declaration, and their completion of the work in a professional atmosphere and fraternal spirit, pointing to a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding that were signed during the past period, in addition to consensus on the topics on the committees' agendas to serve the interests of the two brotherly countries and peoples.
He said Qatar is looking forward to welcoming the brotherly Egyptian people to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
For his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Sameh Shoukry said he was honoured to meet the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani when he visited Doha, noting that the current visit of Sheikh Mohammed to Cairo is the second during this period, which indicates the restoration of the brotherhood and solidarity relations and joint action between the two countries, to achieve the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
Shoukry noted that his talks with Sheikh Mohammed dealt with ways to activate the bilateral relations and explore opportunities for cooperation in the political, economic and cultural fields, adding that cooperation will be effective through the joint higher committee.
He added that the sincere fraternal spirit between the two sides will pave the way for moving forward to address common challenges and promote joint Arab action.
The Egyptian foreign minister underlined that impurities had been removed from the relations between the two countries thanks to the consensus on Al-Ula Declaration, and the subsequent honest and sincere activation of the Follow-up Committee, and the positive results it reached, considering that these positive steps will contribute to advancing the relations of the two brotherly countries to broader horizons.Â
