Asian Men's Volleyball Championship
Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) President Ali Ghanem Al Kuwari praised the first team's win of bronze medal in the 22nd Asian Men's Volleyball Championship that was concluded two days ago in Iran and was won by the Japanese team.
Talking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) today upon receiving the team delegation in Doha, Al Kuwari said winning this medal is an achievement for Qatari volleyball as it is the first for them in the tournament throughout its history.
He added that the team secured the bronze medal after defeating the Chinese team who are ahead the Qatari team in the world rankings, pointing out that the team played strong matches in the tournament. In the semi-finals, the faced the Japanese team, the fifth in the world rankings. Despite that, Qatar played a strong match and managed to win one of the rounds of the match, he added.
The Qatari team await upcoming events, including the Asian Games and the 2024 Olympics qualifiers, he said, pointing out that the QVA will ensure that that the team have appropriate preparation for them. He stressed that the results achieved by Qatari sports in general were a result of the support provided by the wise leadership.
Al Kuwari noted that the Qatari team advanced in the world rankings to 16th place for the first time, thanks to the results achieved in recent tournaments. He thanked all the supporters of the QVA, led by the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) under HE QOC President Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, who has been supporting Qatari volleyball.
QVA Secretary General Youssef Ahmed Kanoo praised the team's win of the bronze medal, reflecting that the team's development is continuous.
He told QNA that this achievement comes a few days after the team won silver of the World Challenge Cup, attributing this to the good preparation by the QVA and the support provided by the Qatar Olympic Committee to it.
Qatar men's volleyball team finished third in the Asian Men's Volleyball Championship in Iran after defeating China 3-0 in the match to determine the third and fourth places.
