QU's Annual Research Forum, Exhibition 2022 Concludes
Qatar University (QU) concluded the activities of the Annual Research Forum and Exhibition 2022, themed "Research, Innovation and Sustainability:
Engaging Nations through Sports", in the presence of 400 researchers, academics, students, representatives from industry and ministries in the country.
Under the auspices of ExxonMobil Qatar, the forum highlighted the QU's efforts in addressing challenges facing society through continuous research based on active and interactive partnerships with industry, institutions and research centers, as well as research-based learning, discovery and entrepreneurship.
On its targets, the forum helps Qatar University faculty and students to make most of the opportunities provided by the relevant partners, and also highlights the important and influential research conducted at Qatar University, which enhances the Qu's vision, supports the research priorities of the State of Qatar and the goals and Qatar National Vision 2030.
On the occasion of the country's hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the participants were keen this year to link scientific research, sports and sustainability issues related to the post-tournament period, and work to improve the health and well-being of society.
HE QU President Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al-Dirham lauded the momentum witnessed by the forum, which came at a time when the world's attention is directed towards the State of Qatar, for hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in a few weeks.
His Excellency noted that the hosting of this major event by the State of Qatar, for the first time in the Arab region and the Middle East, is a message of love and welcome to hundreds of thousands of fans, sent by the people of Qatar on behalf of Arabs and Muslims, which strengthens cooperation and dialogue between countries and peoples, and supports aspirations for progress and peace.
On the importance of the laws and regulations enacted by the State of Qatar to host the World Cup, His Excellency explained that they helped to develop sustainability, the university has introduced sports into its programs, courses and institutions, supported research and projects, provided requirements, established the best facilities, in addition to developing cooperation with relevant organizations, and contributing to local and international sports activities.
HE QU President also underlined the QU's continuous pursuit of more achievements in the sports field with the establishment of the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation, hailing the forum as a valuable opportunity to discuss research that keeps pace with the World Cup in its economic, social and health dimensions, and other results and ongoing post-event effects, adding that this World Cup will open the doors for major future sporting events for the State of Qatar.
The forum witnessed a presentation by Secretary General of the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council Eng. Omar Ali Al-Ansari on the elements that Qatar possesses to build an economy of knowledge. In turn, QU Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies Dr. Mariam Al Maadeed gave an overview of the Qu's research and graduate studies activities, clarifying that the forum highlighted the new achievements of Qatar University, which included expanding the impact of scientific research through the power of research centers, projects, programs, grants, publications, partnerships, and the development of policies and practices, which contributed to strengthening the status of Qatar University and raising its regional and global ranking.
She emphasized that the research completed by the QU and celebrated by the forum focused on the importance of the World Cup and its role in achieving the national vision and sustainable economic and social development, and in the cultural and civilized definition of the Arab and Islamic world.
For his side, President and General Manager of ExxonMobil Qatar Dominic Genetti valued the "successful forum", which combines experience and lessons in addressing some of the pressing issues related to environmental management and sustainability.
The research exhibition accompanying the forum this year highlighted Qatar University's research products and projects, and demonstrated the mechanism followed by Qatar University to address challenges in society through research, and its response to national priorities in various fields, including sports.
QU Press published and distributed the proceedings of the abstracts of the research posters participating in the forum, which amounted to 250 posters falling under various fields, including science and engineering, information and communication technology, medical and health sciences, humanities and social sciences.
