Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) joins the international community and various state institutions to celebrate the World Humanitarian Day, which falls on August 19 each year, to commemorate the aid and other workers who were killed while working for humanitarian causes.
This year, the celebration emphasizes the direct impact of climate emergency on the most vulnerable people of the world, raises awareness of their problems, and supports the efforts to deal with climate change.
QRCS marks the day by taking part in the global campaign of "The Human Race", inviting the public to practice any kind of physical activity, such as walking, running, swimming, cycling, etc., for 100 minutes, as a call for climate action.
In cooperation with Qatar Cycling Center, a group cycling event was held at Lusail Multipurpose Hall. It featured members of the center, as well as QRCS staff and volunteers, with the participation of CEO of QRCS Eng. Ibrahim Abdullah Al Malki.
The public are also invited to participate in a virtual campaign to show solidarity with the victims of climate emergency. As part of The Human Race challenge on STRAVA app, a participant can select a sports activity to exercise and then record the completion of activity by August 31.
A social media awareness campaign is launched to commemorate the attacks on humanitarian workers, under the theme of "Not a Target", to highlight the efforts of Qatar and QRCS in advocating humanitarian causes, and to call for protecting aid personnel.
