Khartoum, October 04, 2026 :Β Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched a multi-specialty medical convoy in Sudan, deploying a volunteer medical delegation from Qatar to perform surgeries for displaced and underprivileged patients at Bahri Teaching Hospital.

Delegation Includes Senior Consultants from Sidra, HMC

The delegation comprises Dr. Mansour Ahmed Jaber, Senior Consultant Pediatric Surgeon at Sidra Medicine, and Dr. Siddiq Mohieddin Siddiq, Consultant General Surgeon at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).

Up to 116 Free Surgeries Planned Over One Week

Over the course of one week, the medical team will perform up to 116 free general, urology, and pediatric surgeries. To enhance the quality of medical services, the hospital's staff will also receive training from the visiting Qatari experts.

Khartoum Health Minister Praises Initiative

Activities began in the presence of Khartoum State Minister of Health Dr. Mahmoud Al Badri, who hailed the initiative as one of the largest surgical convoys in terms of specialties, direct services, and hospital support.

14.7 Million Sudanese Lack Access to Basic Health Care

According to the Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) for Sudan, 14.7 million people β€” 30.4 percent of the country's population β€” face significant challenges accessing essential, life-saving primary health care services.

QRCS Plans Further Health Projects Across Sudan

To help address Sudan's health crisis, QRCS plans to launch several additional medical convoys and health projects, including eye health care, specialized surgeries, disability aids, dialysis equipment and supplies, and cancer medications. These projects are expected to benefit more than 7,400 people, with a total cost of no less than QR 8 million.
