Doha, September 29, 2026 :Β Qatar National Library (QNL) has launched the Accessible Digital Kiosk, offering people with disabilities a more inclusive experience of the Library's heritage collections.

Developed in Partnership with Mada Assistive Technology Center

Funded by the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation (QRDI) Council, the device β€” described as the first and only of its kind β€” was developed and launched in collaboration with Mada Assistive Technology Center to transform how historical archives are experienced, according to a QNL press release issued Tuesday.

Over 100 Heritage Items Brought to Life

Through the kiosk, more than 100 selected items from the Heritage Library β€” some of which may otherwise be difficult for certain visitors to access β€” are brought to life through multidimensional, inclusive formats, including Braille interfaces and highly detailed tactile representations.

Sign Language Avatar Enhances Accessibility

To ensure greater accessibility for people who are hearing impaired, the kiosk integrates advanced sign-language content featuring "Bo-Hamad," Mada's specialized Qatari Sign Language avatar. Combining these assistive technologies, the kiosk delivers a holistic experience of the Library's historical collections.

QNL Official Highlights Commitment to Inclusion

Patron Experience Specialist in the Strategic Planning and Projects Department at QNL, Fatima Mohammed Al Sada, said the Accessible Digital Kiosk embodies the Library's commitment to accessibility and inclusion. "By integrating innovative technology with our historical archives, we are ensuring that all members of our community can experience, learn from, and be inspired by these invaluable collections," she said.

QRDI Council Highlights Collaborative Innovation

Senior Program Director for Innovation Development and Adoption Programs at QRDI Council, Nada Al Olaqi, described the kiosk as a strong example of how collaboration between national institutions and innovators can transform an idea into a practical solution with tangible societal value. "Through our Open Innovation program, we are proud to have supported the development and real-world validation of this technology. We look forward to seeing its impact extend beyond this initial deployment and contribute to more inclusive experiences in Qatar, across the region, and around the world," she added.
