Qatar beach handball
Qatar's beach handball team qualified for the semi-finals of the Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026 after beating Thailand (2-0) in a match that took place Sunday.
Qatar secured the victory with a 26-20, 22-20 scoreline to maintain their unbeaten record in the tournament and finish at the top of Group B with 12 points. The team started their campaign with wins over Pakistan and Oman before following that up in style against Bangladesh, Mongolia and Jordan.
Qatar will wrap up their group stage matches with a clash against the Maldives on Monday, before moving to the semi-finals on Tuesday. Their final will be held on Thursday.
Defending champions Qatar are looking to keep their undefeated run going and stay top of the Sanya titles table.
Results in Beach Volleyball: Qatar's top team of Sherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan progressed to the last-eight with a straight sets (21 10, 21 16) win over compatriots Mohammed Ehab and Mousa Al Khair in an all-Qatar Round of 16 clash.
The initial side had earlier won Group B convincingly, overcoming Maldives, Uzbekistan and Iran in the yet.
Qatar's first team advanced through the group stages with victories against Saudi Arabia and Macau but were eliminated by China in their last match to finish second in their group. Their side finished second behind Brazil after brushing aside Indonesian outfits Jakarta and PPLP, having started the tournament with a painful loss to eventual winners South Korea.

On the other hand, Qatar's men's team will play its last preliminary round match against India in 3x3 basketball on Monday. Having beaten Bahrain and Kazakhstan in their opening two matches, the team will seek a third straight win to seal first place in their group.
On the women's side Qatar will face Kazakhstan in their second group game after starting with a defeat against China.
Qatar's men's team prepares for their competition, which starts on Tuesday, in wrestling. Saad Al Hammadi (80kg) and Hamad Al Nuaimi who competes at 70kg are also part of the squad, both will be aiming to deliver impressive performances that showcase how much the sport has developed in Qatar.
This also serves as a good experience to compete with the top wrestlers of Asia.
