Qatar's Awqaf launches endowment to fund cancer patient treatment

The General Directorate of Endowments at Qatar's Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has launched a new “Cancer Patient Treatment Endowment” under its Healthcare Endowment Fund, dedicated to supporting the treatment of cancer patients and strengthening the long-term sustainability of the care they receive.

What the endowment does

According to the Directorate, the endowment is designed to channel charitable giving toward cancer patients' treatment and to help sustain the health services provided to them, in coordination with the relevant health authorities in the country. It forms part of a broader push to develop Qatar's healthcare endowment system and widen its reach so that it can respond to pressing community needs.

The move builds on the Directorate's earlier establishment of a dedicated healthcare endowment structure, founded on the principle that the quality of health services is a marker of a society's development and growth. In keeping with its other endowment programmes, the Directorate typically invites members of the public, philanthropists and donors to contribute through its official channels, including the General Directorate of Endowments' website, its mobile application and other digital endowment services. Such contributions, the ministry has noted in the past, offer an enduring charitable legacy while helping to improve lives — in this case, easing the burden on those undergoing cancer treatment.
