Call for Recognition of Different National Contexts
Al Misnad encouraged committee experts to make use of the knowledge gained from different countries while recognising variations in legal systems, public policies and national circumstances.
She said this diversity should also be reflected in the committeeโs general comments and guidelines, which are intended to help States Parties understand and implement the convention.
Qatar Pledges Continued Cooperation
Concluding the dialogue, Qatar stressed the importance of international cooperation in achieving sustainable progress on human rights.
The country said it looks forward to continuing its work with the UN committee, the international community, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders to address human-rights challenges and promote inclusion so that no one is left behind.
Why the Review Matters
Periodic reviews under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities allow States Parties to report on measures taken to implement their treaty obligations and give the UN committee an opportunity to examine progress and identify areas for further improvement.
