Qatar Welcomes UK Trade Ban on Israeli Settlement Goods

Doha, September 08, 2026 : The State of Qatar has welcomed the United Kingdom's imposition of a trade ban on goods originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Ministry Calls Move a Step Against Settlement Policies

In a statement issued Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hailed the move as an important step supporting efforts to deter the occupation's settlement policies, describing them as a flagrant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, most notably UN Security Council Resolution 2334 and Article 8 of the Rome Statute. The statement added that such policies represent a blatant assault on the rights of the Palestinian people and undermine efforts aimed at achieving the two-state solution.

Qatar Welcomes Growing International Momentum

Qatar also welcomed the intention of several countries to join these efforts or consider similar steps in line with their national procedures, describing the measures as a practical translation of international efforts aimed at implementing the two-state solution and compelling Israel to halt its settlement policies. The Ministry noted that these steps come amid growing international momentum, reflected in the recognition of the independent State of Palestine by a number of countries, further strengthening the path toward the realization of a Palestinian state on the ground.

Qatar Calls for Broader International Action

The State of Qatar expressed hope that more countries would take similar measures, and called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities in compelling Israel to halt its settlement policies in the occupied Palestinian territories and to respect international law and legitimacy resolutions.

Qatar Reaffirms Support for Palestinian Statehood

The Ministry reaffirmed the State of Qatar's steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to establish an independent state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the two-state solution.
