Qatar Welcomes Ireland’s Law Banning Imports from Israeli Settlements

Qatar has welcomed Ireland’s enactment of legislation banning the import of goods from Israeli settlements, describing the move as an important step towards addressing settlement policies in the occupied Palestinian territories.

In a statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Irish legislation supports international efforts to deter settlement policies, which Doha described as violations of international law and Palestinian rights.

Qatar calls for wider international action

Qatar expressed hope that other countries will adopt similar measures, urging the international community to fulfil what it described as its legal and moral responsibilities regarding the Israeli settlement policy.

The ministry stressed the importance of international efforts to prevent further expansion of settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories and to uphold international law.

The Qatari statement also reaffirmed Doha’s continued support for the Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people.

Support for two-state solution

Qatar reiterated its support for a two-state solution based on international law, calling for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement comes amid continued international debate over Israeli settlement activity in the occupied West Bank and the measures governments can take in response.

Ireland’s move is expected to add to wider international discussions about economic and diplomatic measures concerning goods originating from Israeli settlements.
