Qatar Red Crescent delivers emergency aid and medical teams to Venezuela

The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has dispatched humanitarian aid shipments and deployed a specialized medical and relief delegation to Venezuela, responding to the catastrophic earthquakes that struck the country. The mission forms part of the Qatari airlift ordered by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al‑Thani, underscoring Qatar’s commitment to global solidarity in times of crisis.

HE Salman bin Nabit Al Khulaifi, Ambassador of Qatar to Venezuela, described the initiative as a reflection of Qatar’s leading humanitarian role and its dedication to supporting nations worldwide. “The arrival of this fully integrated medical and relief convoy highlights the strong bilateral relations and humanitarian ties between Qatar and Venezuela,” he said, pledging the Embassy’s full support to ensure the mission achieves its objectives.

The QRCS delegation consists of three specialized groups:

  • A relief team tasked with needs assessment and emergency aid distribution.
  • A medical unit comprising consultants and surgeons from Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and QRCS, providing examinations, consultations, and surgeries.
  • A psychosocial support group delivering rehabilitation programs and mental health services to strengthen community resilience.

Ahead of operations, QRCS, the Qatar Fund for Development, and the Venezuelan Red Cross convened a coordination meeting to assess humanitarian needs and establish mechanisms for relief cooperation, particularly in the health sector. Two aid shipments were delivered by Qatari aircraft, containing 16 tons of medical supplies and 24 tons of hygiene items.

HE Ernesto Villegas Poljak, Venezuela’s Permanent Ambassador to UNESCO, expressed his government’s deep gratitude to Qatar for its timely intervention. Relief teams from QRCS and the Venezuelan Red Cross visited affected zones, identifying urgent needs such as shelter materials, clean water, hygiene kits, and psychosocial services, especially for children.

Field assessments confirmed priorities, and experts from both sides agreed to maintain close cooperation to ensure rapid response and expand medical and relief assistance. The mission reflects Qatar’s humanitarian vision, combining immediate aid with long‑term resilience support for communities devastated by natural disasters. (QNA)
