Qatar backs Pakistan‑led mediation on Iran–US ceasefire
Qatarās Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed AlāAnsari said Tuesday,14 April 2026, that the entire region is engaged in supporting Pakistanās mediation efforts aimed at ending the USāIsrael war on Iran. Speaking at the weekly press briefing in Doha, AlāAnsari emphasized that Qatar remains in close coordination with Islamabad as negotiations continue to be discussed.
āWe remain in contact with our brothers in Pakistan who are leading the mediation,ā AlāAnsari noted, highlighting the series of calls and reciprocal visits between Pakistani and Qatari officials in recent weeks. He stressed that these exchanges reflect a broader regional commitment to backing Pakistanās initiative.
AlāAnsari clarified that Qatarās role is one of support and coordination rather than direct mediation. āWe applaud Pakistanās efforts and support their leadership in this process. Beyond this, I am unaware of any specific role we are playing other than contributing to regional coordination,ā he said.
The spokesperson added that Qatar is awaiting official confirmation from Pakistan regarding the next round of talks in Islamabad. āAny assessment of the role of other countries is not part of the discussion at the moment. What I can assure you is that we are supporting the Pakistaniāled mediation,ā he concluded.
His remarks underscore Qatarās position as a regional partner in deāescalation efforts, while placing the responsibility for mediation firmly with Pakistan.
