HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al‑Thani has confirmed that the recently signed memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran represents a pivotal step toward halting the war and establishing a structured negotiation process aimed at achieving a final agreement.
Speaking in an interview with Al Jazeera TV, His Excellency explained that the memorandum was the product of weeks of intensive coordination with Pakistan and the support of several regional and international partners. He stressed that the agreement provides both a political and technical framework designed to ensure continuity of talks, regular meetings, and mechanisms to address interim challenges.
The Prime Minister noted that discussions between Washington and Tehran are currently focused on the nuclear file, while broader issues involving Iran and regional states — including security in the Strait of Hormuz — will be addressed through a wider Gulf and Arab framework. He emphasized Qatar’s coordination with GCC partners to advance a unified vision for stability.
His Excellency acknowledged that the negotiation process faces external pressures and regional challenges, particularly in Lebanon and the Strait of Hormuz, but highlighted that mechanisms have been introduced to prevent escalation and safeguard dialogue. He underlined Qatar’s continued mediation role alongside Pakistan, through joint committees and working groups aimed at bridging differences.
On regional dynamics, Sheikh Mohammed stressed that lasting stability cannot be achieved without a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, reiterating Qatar’s support for an independent Palestinian state. He warned that continued escalation would have repercussions beyond the Middle East, affecting the global economy, and urged all parties to act responsibly.
The Prime Minister concluded by affirming that Qatar’s priority, under the vision of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al‑Thani, is to extinguish conflict and build a durable framework for peace and security across the region.
