Qatar Plays Key Mediation Role as Trump Announces Gaza Disarmament Deal

Qatar has played a key role in ongoing mediation efforts over Gaza as US President Donald Trump announced that an agreement had been reached on the “complete disarmament” of Hamas and other armed groups in the enclave.

Trump said on Thursday that his so-called Board of Peace had reached an agreement covering the disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza. He described the development as a major step toward establishing a new Palestinian government and rebuilding the territory.

Qatar among key mediators

Qatar has been involved in the latest diplomatic efforts alongside Egypt and Türkiye, with mediators holding talks with Hamas representatives in Cairo over the implementation of the US-backed Gaza peace framework.

The talks have focused on some of the most difficult issues surrounding the next phase of the Gaza agreement, including Hamas’ weapons, Israeli military withdrawal, security arrangements and the future administration of the territory.

A difficult path ahead
