The State of Qatar took part in the virtual Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Seven on Afghanistan on Monday.

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani represented the State of Qatar at the meeting.

The meeting was attended by HE Secretary of State of the United States of America Antony Blinken, HE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic Luigi Di Maio; HE Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom Dominic Raab, HE Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic Jean-Yves Le Drian, HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Heiko Maas, HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Toshimitsu Motegi, HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Marc Garneau, HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu, HE High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, and HE Secretary-General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg.

The meeting reviewed the latest developments of the humanitarian, security and political situation in Afghanistan, the developments of the evacuating civilians process, and the international efforts necessary to ensure a peaceful transition of power that guarantees the protection of civilians and preserves the gains and rights of the Afghan people.

The participants in the meeting expressed their thanks to the State of Qatar for its continuous efforts to achieve stability in Afghanistan and preserve the rights of the Afghan people.

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani stressed the importance of addressing the current situation in Afghanistan in a realistic way and setting up incentives in order to ensure a peaceful transfer of power that preserves the basic rights of the Afghan people.

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the necessity of the cooperation of all international actors in the transitional period in Afghanistan, noting Qatar's continued support to the efforts aimed at evacuating the civilians and ensuring their protection and safety, and Qatar's readiness to cooperate with everyone to promote regional and international consensus in order to achieve security and stability in Afghanistan.

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani stressed the importance of accelerating the provision of humanitarian aid to avoid any humanitarian and economic crisis in Afghanistan, warning that such crisis would have serious repercussions on the stability of Afghanistan and the region.
