12th World Urban Forum in Cairo
The State of Qatar is participating in the 12th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12), which began today in Cairo, Egypt.
Qatar's delegation to the forum is led by HE Minister of Social Development and Family, Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, and includes CEO of Msheireb Properties, Eng. Ali Al Kuwari, as well as representatives from the Ministries of Municipality, Environment and Climate Change, and Qatar Airways.
During the event, HE the Minister of Social Development and Family toured the exhibition held alongside the forum, accompanied by HE Prime Minister of Egypt, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly. They visited the Qatari pavilion and other national pavilions. Additionally, Her Excellency joined HE Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity, Dr. Maya Morsi, on a visit to the Diarna Handicrafts and Heritage Exhibition, a special event on the sidelines of the forum.
In remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the margins of the forum, HE Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad highlighted the significance of the forum's agenda, emphasizing the unique relevance of this year's theme: "Everything starts at home: Local actions for sustainable cities and communities." Her Excellency noted that sustainable communities are fundamentally rooted in family cohesion and stability, underscoring the importance of supporting and strengthening the family as a cornerstone of urban sustainability.
Meanwhile, CEO of Msheireb Properties, Eng. Ali Al Kuwari, spoke during the Business and Institutions session, where he highlighted Qatar's achievements in urban development. He discussed the sustainable real estate advancements in Qatar, focusing on Msheireb Properties' approach to sustainable urban development. Al Kuwari presented "Msheireb Downtown Doha" as an exemplary model of future cities that prioritize sustainability in their planning and construction. He emphasized the need for environmentally friendly components in city-building, such as green buildings and smart technology.
The World Urban Forum runs for five days and features a series of diverse sessions aimed at advancing the localization of sustainable development goals, exchanging innovative urban solutions, and exploring local initiatives to address global challenges. The forum gathers representatives from UN member states, local governments, the private sector, and civil society.
Established by the United Nations in 2001, the World Urban Forum is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization, focusing on the impacts of rapid urbanization and its effects on social, economic, and environmental policies in communities, cities, and towns worldwide.
