Qatar Named in Updated EU Aviation Advisory

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has updated its Gulf airspace advisory, recommending that airlines avoid operating over Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE and the Gulf of Oman as a precaution amid ongoing regional tensions.

The advisory, issued Tuesday as a Conflict Zone Information Bulletin, is valid until 29 July. It follows an earlier notice from the previous week, which had asked airlines to exercise caution rather than avoid the airspace entirely.

EASA said the update reflects a broader risk assessment linked to the current security situation, citing the presence of military infrastructure in the region and the potential for airspace activity involving missiles or drones. The agency also noted that active air defence systems could increase the chance of civilian aircraft being misidentified.
