Qatar Museums Exhibition ‘Your Ghosts Are Mine’ Makes Latin America Debut

Santiago: Qatar Museums (QM), in collaboration with the Years of Culture initiative, has officially opened its acclaimed exhibition “Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices” in Chile, marking its first presentation in Latin America.

The exhibition is being hosted at Centro Cultural La Moneda (CCLM) in Santiago and was inaugurated in the presence of officials from Qatar and Chile. The showcase builds on the cultural ties established through the Qatar Argentina and Chile 2025 Year of Culture, reinforcing the shared commitment to artistic collaboration and cross-cultural dialogue.

Produced by Qatar Museums, the exhibition is co-organised by Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art and the future Art Mill Museum, in partnership with the Doha Film Institute (DFI) and Chile’s Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage. The project reflects Qatar Museums’ vision of using contemporary art and cinema as powerful tools to encourage understanding and meaningful connections between diverse cultures.

Curated by Matthieu Orléan, artistic collaborator at La Cinémathèque française, the exhibition brings together film excerpts and immersive video installations created by more than 40 filmmakers and artists from the Arab world, Africa and Southeast Asia. Many of the featured works have been supported by the Doha Film Institute, highlighting voices and perspectives that are often underrepresented on the global cultural stage.

Following its acclaimed presentation at Palazzo Franchetti during the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia in 2024, the exhibition now introduces Latin American audiences to a unique cinematic journey exploring themes of memory, identity, migration, exile and belonging. Visitors experience the exhibition through eight thematic environments—Deserts, Ruins, Borders, Exile, Futurism, Cosmos, Fires and Fantasma—designed to create immersive spaces that encourage reflection and dialogue.

Speaking at the opening, Zeina Arida, Director of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, said Qatar Museums believes art has the power to create meaningful connections across cultures and offer new perspectives on shared human experiences. She noted that the exhibition continues the mission of the Years of Culture initiative by bringing together extraordinary artistic voices from the Arab world, Africa and Southeast Asia, while fostering lasting cultural relationships with Chile.

Representatives from Centro Cultural La Moneda and the Doha Film Institute also highlighted the exhibition’s role in strengthening international cultural partnerships and promoting dialogue through cinema and visual storytelling. They described the showcase as an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding while celebrating diverse narratives from across the Global South.

The Chile exhibition represents another milestone in Qatar Museums’ expanding international cultural programme, demonstrating the country’s continued commitment to promoting artistic exchange and building bridges between communities through creativity and innovation.
