Qatar Energy expands fleet with addition of giant LNG carrier 'Al Nigyan'

QatarEnergy has expanded its liquefied natural gas (LNG) transportation fleet with the addition of the giant LNG carrier Al Nigyan, strengthening the company's shipping capabilities as it prepares to increase gas production from the North Field.

The latest vessel is part of QatarEnergy's broader fleet expansion programme aimed at supporting the country's growing LNG export capacity and ensuring reliable transportation to international markets.

Al Nigyan Can Carry 174,000 Cubic Metres of LNG

The Al Nigyan has a capacity of approximately 174,000 cubic metres of liquefied natural gas.

The large carrier was constructed by South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, one of the world's leading shipbuilding companies.

Its size and capacity make the vessel an important addition to QatarEnergy's growing LNG transportation network.

Eighth Vessel in a Series of Ten

Al Nigyan is the eighth vessel in a series of 10 LNG carriers chartered for QatarEnergy.

The vessels are being added as part of the company's preparations to meet the transportation requirements associated with its expanding LNG production capacity.

With eight of the 10 vessels now in the fleet, QatarEnergy is moving closer to completing this phase of its shipping expansion programme.

Supporting North Field Expansion

The fleet expansion is closely linked to QatarEnergy's plans to increase LNG production from the North Field, the world's largest natural gas field.

Additional LNG carriers will provide the transportation capacity needed to move increased production from Qatar to customers around the world.
