Qatar Golan Heights

The State of Qatar has condemned the Colombian government’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, reaffirming its position that the territory remains occupied Arab land.

Qatar Reaffirms Position on Golan Heights

In a statement issued Tuesday, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the Golan Heights is occupied Arab territory and that attempts to recognise Israeli sovereignty over the area do not change its legal status under international law.

Qatar said supporting the occupation in disregarding relevant United Nations resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, would have no legal effect on the status of the Golan Heights.

Israeli Laws on Golan Heights Deemed Legally Void

The Ministry reiterated that the imposition of Israeli laws, jurisdiction and administration on the occupied Golan Heights is null and void and has no legal effect.

Qatar called for Israel to comply with international law and withdraw from all occupied Arab territories, including the Golan Heights.

Qatar Warns of Impact on Regional Peace

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that unilateral decisions recognising Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights could become a major obstacle to achieving peace in the region.

Qatar reaffirmed its principled and unwavering position in support of international law and relevant UN resolutions concerning the occupied territory.
