Qatar Charity Completes Major Vision Care Initiative in Sri Lanka

Qatar Charity’s Sri Lanka Office has completed a major vision care initiative under its global health programmes, providing essential eye care and improved quality of life for hundreds of vulnerable people across the country.

300 Cataract Surgeries Completed

As part of the Challenge 27 Campaign, the initiative, valued at QR 282,480, resulted in 300 cataract surgeries and the distribution of 555 prescription spectacles. The eyewear support included 150 school students whose education was being affected by uncorrected vision problems.

Eye Care Support for Vulnerable Communities

The programme was launched in response to the growing need for accessible eye care among low-income families, elderly people affected by cataracts and children experiencing vision-related difficulties at school.

Working with qualified medical professionals and healthcare institutions, Qatar Charity provided beneficiaries with eye examinations, cataract surgeries and corrective eyewear free of charge.

Part of Qatar Charity’s Wider Health Programmes

The vision care initiative forms part of Qatar Charity’s broader health programmes in Sri Lanka, which also include projects addressing malnutrition among children under five and pregnant women, as well as support for the treatment of chronic diseases.

Together, these health initiatives have benefited more than 2,000 cases, with a combined budget of QR 988,680.

Through these programmes, Qatar Charity continues to support vulnerable communities by expanding access to essential healthcare services and addressing health conditions that can significantly affect people’s quality of life, education and overall well-being.
