A joint statement has been issued by the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of the Netherlands to mark the official visit of the Amir, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to the Netherlands.

The statement reads: On June 24th, HH the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, concluded a successful official visit to the Netherlands, following an invitation from HM King Willem-Alexander. This visit is a significant milestone in the friendly and longstanding relations between Qatar and the Netherlands. It demonstrates the mutual commitment of both nations to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance cooperation in various fields, fostering collaboration between government and private sectors.

During the visit, His Highness met with HM King Willem-Alexander and HE Prime Minister Mark Rutte, engaging in comprehensive discussions on various issues. Both parties stressed the importance of dialogue and collaboration in addressing global challenges and promoting international peace and stability.

Key outcomes of the visit include:

Bilateral Relations: Both nations pledged to strengthen their bilateral relationship, facilitating cooperation in new areas for both government and private sectors. The discussions highlighted the need to explore new opportunities and create a conducive environment for collaboration across various domains.

Regional Developments: In-depth discussions were held on the current regional situation, the risk of escalation, and maritime security. Both countries emphasized the importance of a permanent and sustainable cessation of hostilities, upholding international law and humanitarian principles, protecting civilians in armed conflicts, releasing hostages, and alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Qatar's role in promoting sustainable peace and stability was acknowledged, along with its efforts in evacuating Dutch citizens from Afghanistan. The Netherlands' support for a two-state solution and opposition to illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories were also commended.

International Cooperation: Both nations agreed to expand collaboration in multilateral institutions to promote the international legal order. They explored potential cooperation in mediating international disputes, supported by the signing of a Letter of Intent, paving the way for joint efforts in addressing global challenges through diplomatic and humanitarian means.

Economic Cooperation: Opportunities for trade and investment in sectors such as sustainable energy, climate, water, e-health, science, and technology were explored. A CEO roundtable, led by HE Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al-Thani and HE Minister of Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands, Liesje Schreinemacher, brought together business leaders to discuss potential partnerships. Qatar's relevance to the Netherlands and EU energy supply was emphasized by the recent LNG deal between QatarEnergy and Shell. The signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on economic and technical cooperation further solidifies this commitment, enhancing economic ties, promoting innovation, and facilitating knowledge exchange.

Defense Cooperation: The visit promoted defense cooperation through the signing of an MoU for information and experience exchange in military planning, joint exercises, and humanitarian aid. This agreement strengthens the defense partnership between the two nations, enhancing their ability to respond to regional and global security challenges collaboratively.

Human Rights and Social Development: Qatar and the Netherlands reaffirmed their dedication to upholding human rights and promoting social development both domestically and internationally. The Netherlands highly values its ongoing cooperation with Qatar on human rights.
