Qatar Airways has achieved another milestone in inflight connectivity, becoming the first airline in the world to operate Starlink-equipped Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The achievement further strengthens the carrier’s position as the operator of the world’s first and largest Starlink-equipped widebody fleet.
The airline has also completed the Starlink rollout across its Boeing 787-8 sub-fleet in just seven months, bringing the total number of Starlink-equipped widebody aircraft in its fleet to 150.
Starlink Rollout Across Boeing 787 Fleet
Qatar Airways remains on track to complete the Starlink installation across its entire Boeing 787 fleet by the end of 2026.
The latest achievement follows the airline’s record-breaking installation programmes for other aircraft types. Qatar Airways completed the Starlink rollout across its Boeing 777 fleet in nine months and its Airbus A350 fleet in eight months.
As a result, Qatar Airways now operates the world’s first and largest Starlink-equipped fleets of the Boeing 777, Airbus A350 and Boeing 787.
High-Speed Wi-Fi at 35,000 Feet
Through its expanding Starlink network, Qatar Airways is transforming the inflight experience by allowing passengers to remain connected throughout their journeys.
Starlink Wi-Fi can deliver speeds of up to 500 Mbps, giving passengers greater flexibility to work, stay connected with family and friends, stream content or simply relax while travelling at cruising altitude.
The airline says its growing Starlink-connected fleet is helping create a travel experience where passengers no longer need to disconnect from the digital world while onboard.
Free Gate-to-Gate Connectivity Across Global Routes
Qatar Airways was the first airline to offer Starlink connectivity globally on long-haul and ultra-long-haul routes across six continents.
Free, gate-to-gate Starlink Wi-Fi is being introduced across more journeys on the airline’s global network, connecting passengers travelling to the Americas and Australasia, as well as major destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
More Than 23 Million Passengers Connected
Since launching Starlink connectivity in October 2024, more than 23 million passengers have used the high-speed Wi-Fi service across more than 86,000 Qatar Airways flights.
The figures highlight the growing demand for reliable and fast connectivity during air travel.
Starlink Rollout Surpasses 83% Completion
Qatar Airways’ Starlink widebody installation programme has now surpassed 83% completion, making it one of the fastest and most ambitious connectivity rollouts in aviation history.
The airline can operate up to 323 Starlink-equipped flights daily, further expanding access to high-speed onboard connectivity across its international network.
With the latest Boeing 787-9 milestone and continued fleet expansion, Qatar Airways is reinforcing its focus on innovation and enhancing the passenger experience through faster, more seamless connectivity in the sky.
