The State of Qatar affirmed working towards the full social inclusion of persons with disabilities.
The State of Qatar affirmed it has been working through various measures to ensure full social inclusion of persons with disabilities and enhancing their abilities to live independently, while ensuring their unrestricted access to comprehensive education and fair employment opportunities, pointing out that it is particularly concerned with removing social and institutional restrictions in order to achieve an inclusive society that views disability as an essential part of human diversity.
This came in Qatar's statement delivered by HE Permanent Representative of State of Qatar to UN in Geneva Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah, during the annual high-level panel discussion on human rights mainstreaming (Harnessing multilateral efforts to embed, amplify and realize the rights of persons with disabilities, with a focus on full and effective participation and inclusion in society), at the 55th session of the Human Rights Council.
HE Dr. Al Muftah noted that persons with disabilities receive great attention in Qatar, which is embodied in including disability issues in social and development policies and programs in the both public and private sectors.
The State of Qatar has established a number of institutions concerned with providing specialized services to persons with disabilities, Her Excellency said pointing that to ensure strengthening the right-based support approach, Qatar has worked to include these rights in national legislation, and in the Qatar National Vision 2030, which provides for equality and justice for all segments of society.
She explained that the State of Qatar is working to invest in the regional and international forums it hosts to adopt initiatives that support the promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, noting that Doha is scheduled to host the Fourth World Summit on Disability in 2028, in cooperation and partnership with the International Disability Alliance.
Her Excellency voiced the State of Qatar's pride in organizing a World Cup edition that is friendly to people with disabilities in 2022. She considered hat naming Qatar's Ghanem Al Muftah, as an ambassador for FIFA, is an acknowledgment of the inspiring abilities of persons with disabilities in expressing the high human values that international institutions seek to establish through multilateral forums.
