Qatar’s Ministry of Interior Announces Release of New Significant Plate Numbers via Sooum App

 The Ministry of Interior has confirmed that a new batch of significant vehicle plate numbers will be made available through the Sooum app, beginning on Sunday, 5 July 2026, at 8:00 AM. The announcement, issued on 1 July 2026, highlights the ministry’s continued efforts to streamline access to special plate numbers through a transparent and digital process.

According to officials, the release will be managed through the app’s Expression of Interest (EOI) feature. Interested individuals must submit their request for a desired plate number and pay the required security deposit. This step must be completed within 72 hours from the start of the EOI period.

Once the EOI window closes, the process moves into an internal auction phase lasting 24 hours. If only one person expresses interest in a particular plate number, it will be sold directly at the listed price. However, if multiple bidders express interest, the number will be awarded through a competitive auction, with the highest bidder securing the plate.

The ministry emphasized that this system ensures fairness and transparency, while also providing enthusiasts and collectors with equal opportunities to obtain distinctive plate numbers. The Sooum app allows users to browse the newly released numbers conveniently, offering a digital platform that eliminates the need for in‑person procedures.

Officials noted that the initiative reflects Qatar’s broader strategy of adopting smart solutions across government services, enhancing efficiency and accessibility for the public. By digitizing the auction process, the Ministry of Interior aims to provide a seamless experience that balances demand with regulatory oversight.
