Msheireb Museums, in partnership with Sidra Medicine, successfully hosted the fourth session of the Science Cafe series on September 2, 2024, at Bin Jelmood House.

The event, titled "Hope for Little Heroes: Revolutionizing Pediatric Cancer Therapies," offered an insightful overview of the latest advancements in pediatric oncology, spotlighting cutting-edge innovations that are transforming cancer treatment for young patients.

Abdullah Al Naama, General Manager of Msheireb Museums, expressed pride in hosting this session, emphasizing the critical link between culture and medicine. He stated, "This series underscores the essential connection between these two pillars of our lives. By creating a space for these worlds to converge, we foster dialogue that not only educates but also empowers our community. Dr. Sahar Da’as, Research Manager at Sidra Medicine and leader of the Science Cafe initiative, highlighted the series as a vital platform for sharing knowledge and fostering dialogue on pressing health issues. She remarked, "Our latest session on pediatric cancer therapies not only showcased significant advancements in clinical care and research but also stressed the community's crucial role in the fight against cancer. Through collaborations like this one with Msheireb Museums, we aim to raise awareness and support for pediatric cancer care, leading to brighter futures for our young patients and their families."

The session featured a series of insightful presentations by experts in pediatric oncology from Sidra Medicine. Dr. Ata Ur Maaz discussed recent clinical advancements in cancer treatments and their impact on survival rates.

Claire May-Ann Ryman from Child Life emphasized the importance of parents explaining their child’s condition and its implications, as well as setting expectations.

Dr. Chiara Cugno, Director of the Advanced Cell Therapy Core, highlighted the critical and rapidly evolving nature of pediatric cancer research.

The audience was deeply moved when a patient’s family shared their child’s personal journey, demonstrating the transformative power of the latest treatments.
