MoECC on Monday marked Qatari Environment Day

Under the theme "Our Earth Our Legacy", The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) on Monday marked Qatari Environment Day, organizing a ceremony at the Um Al Amad Reserve.

During the ceremony, HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, accompanied by pupils of Al-Nahdha Primary School for Girls, planted a number of wild plant seedlings, and released several bustards and hares, with the aim of preserving biological diversity in the Qatari environment.

In remarks, HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change, affirmed Qatar's keen attention to the environment, referring to launching several initiatives and rehabilitating 50 kindergartens across the country, which would restore meadows and increase grass cover, in addition to an initiative to resettle some birds that used to live on the islands.

His Excellency pointed out that the environment is a common responsibility that falls on all members of society, and that initiatives to enhance environmental awareness must continue, through workshops, seminars, and curricula in addition to educational and media materials targeting all ages and groups in society. He also welcomed the participation of environment activists in releasing the endangered animals and birds.

For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Climate Change Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Sada said that the State of Qatar has made wide strides in the fields of environment preservation and addressing climate change issues, through implementing many environmental projects and initiatives, which aim to protect the environment in the State of Qatar and preserve its resources, as well as reduce the impact of climate change to achieve sustainable development in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.

The Ministry is taking steady steps towards achieving the goals of the Qatar National Strategy for Environment and Climate Change, and the Third National Development Strategy 2023-2030, which are two basic pillars for achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030, he said.

Assistant Undersecretary for Environment Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Abdulhadi Nasser Al Marri said that the State of Qatar enjoys a vast biological diversity, noting the Ministry's efforts to protect and develop this diversity, through environmental laws and legislation, as well as launching many initiatives and projects that seek to preserve and sustain the Qatari environment.

For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Reserves Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Ibrahim Abdullatif Al Meslimani said that marking Qatar's Environment Day reflects the firm commitment to protecting the environment and the balance between development and sustainability.

He reviewed the Ministry's efforts to preserve the local environment, through expanding the establishment of natural reserves in the territorial waters of the State of Qatar, and working on many joint projects with state institutions, to redevelop marine life and preserve aquatic life.
